Covid-19 hospitalisations rise to 1,150

MALAYSIA logged more than 1,000 Covid hospitalisations for a third consecutive day, with 1,150 admitted yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

The ministry’s CovidNow website showed that the nationwide hospital utilisation rate increased to 64.5% from 63.4% the day before, with Covid patients occupying 40.2%. 

Meanwhile, ventilator utilisation increased from 32.7% to 33%.  Intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy also saw an upward trend, increasing from 52% to 52.6%, with Covid patients accounting for 16.2% of its usage. 

Currently, Kedah has the highest utilisation rate of 78.3%. 

The hospital admission rate indicates the severity of the virus. Hospital utilisation includes bed occupancy as well as the number of patients in ICU and on ventilators. 

Selangor logged the most number of admissions by any state or territories at 282, followed by Johor (221) and Sabah (192).

The admissions in Selangor pushed up the number of hospitalisations in the Klang Valley to 355, where Kuala Lumpur contributed 45 and Putrajaya 28. 

Other states reporting new admissions were Kedah (32), Kelantan (73), Malacca (22), Negri Sembilan (72), Pahang (41), Perak (40), Perlis (13), Penang (25), Sarawak (46), Terengganu (16) and Labuan (2).

Meanwhile, of the 10,089 new infections reported, Klang Valley accounted for 3,101.

Selangor reported 2,549 cases, Kuala Lumpur (491) and Putrajaya (61).

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Johor (1,582), Kedah (904), Kelantan (471), Malacca (457), Negri Sembilan (464), Pahang (624), Perak (321), Perlis (44), Penang (542), Sabah (1,285), Sarawak (58), Terengganu (213) and Labuan (23).

Malaysia also registered nine Covid-19 deaths yesterday, bringing the total fatalities in the country since the onset of the epidemic to 32,034.

Among the nine Covid-19 fatalities, two were declared dead on arrival. All deaths were backdated.

Four of the deaths were reported in Johor, followed by Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Penang, and Terengganu with one each. 

There was no deaths in the other states and federal territories.

As of midnight, there were 69,572 active Covid-19 cases in the country. – February 7, 2022.
