A MAJOR reshuffle will take place in the police force in Malacca soon, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said today, following the arrest of several officers for corruption.

Seven officers and a police corporal were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission last week.

Khalid said the first batch of promotion and the reshuffling of top posts in the force has started.

In Malacca, 15 officers and the rank and file have been moved.

“More such exercises will be conducted soon,” he said to media after the launching of a blood donation drive in Federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman this morning.

Last week, MACC arrested 11 suspects among whom were the Melaka Tengah and Jasin police chiefs for alleged involvement in a protection racket in the city.

The 12th suspect, a Melaka Tengah CID chief, was detained on Monday to facilitate the MACC probe.

They were part of a syndicate offering protection to illegal massage parlours and gambling dens.

Khalid will be visiting the Malacca police contingent on Friday for a meeting with the squad there.

On the allegation that policemen in the state had to take bribes so that they could afford to entertain their superiors, Khalid denied that such things occurred.

“It should not be happening. It is not the culture. But when someone from another state comes, it is a normal thing to treat him for a meal but it’s not at a luxury level.”

He also urged those in the police force who were “bullied” into submitting to such demands or with information of other officers’ wrongdoing to lodge a complaint with the Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance.

“You can do it anonymously. You can do it by telephone calls, emails or even see us face to face.” – May 24, 2017.
