FORMER prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad spent several minutes walking unaided around the Putrajaya Lake today, showing signs that he is well on the way to a full recovery after a lengthy hospital stay last month.
Dr Mahathir, who was accompanied by his wife Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and an entourage of staff, spent time walking around the lake and stopped for a bite under a tent that had been set up.
In a video posted on his YouTube page, Dr Mahathir said he is feeling better but is still a little weak.
“I have recovered from an illness, which I consider to be severe,” he said in the video.
“There were times I thought I would not get better but, praise God, with the treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN), I have recovered.”
The 96-year-old Langkawi MP said he is now able to walk, eat and sleep but is still not strong enough to go back to work.
He also thanked the public for praying for his speedy recovery.
“I hope I will fully recover soon,” he said.
On January 7, Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN for an elective medical procedure and was discharged on January 13.
He was admitted to IJN again on January 20 as he had not fully recovered from the procedure.
He spent six days at the coronary care unit before being moved to the regular ward on January 26.
