Daily Covid cases won’t be reported as stand-alone from tomorrow, Khairy says

THE number of daily Covid-19 cases will not be released as a stand-alone every afternoon from tomorrow, announced Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Instead, he said, it will be released alongside data on bed utilisation, as well as the number of patients in intensive care units and who require ventilator support.
This will allow for the number of cases to be looked at in a more holistic manner, he added.
“This is so we can look at the daily data (cases) alongside other data like the hospitalisation rate to decrease the fear factor concerning the climb in daily cases,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
“This will involve a change in mindset. Rather than looking at 20,000 cases or 30,000 cases a day, we should look at them (together) with the other metrics.”
This means that Friday’s cases will be made public on Saturday at 10am, he said.
He added that this is in line with international standards.
“This will educate the public to look not just at daily cases, but also other data to get a clearer picture of the current situation.” – February 17, 2022.
