THE number of new Covid-19 deaths dropped to 40 yesterday while daily infection figures declined to 24,466 from the previous day’s 27,299. 

Of the 40 deaths, 17 were classified as dead on arrival. The death toll now stands at 32,674 while the total number of infections since the start of the epidemic is now at 3.4 million.

Kedah reported eight deaths, followed by Johor (5), Penang (5), Perak (4), Sabah (4), Kelantan (3), Pahang (3), Malacca (2), Selangor (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Negri Sembilan (1) and Terengganu (1).

For fresh cases, Selangor topped the list with 6,823 infections, followed by Sabah (2,874), Kedah (2,060), Johor (1,818), Penang (1,548), Negri Sembilan (1,520), Pahang (1,461), Perak (1,330), Kelantan (1,146), Kuala Lumpur (1,123), Malacca (750), Terengganu (731), Sarawak (475), Perlis (321), Labuan (311) and Putrajaya (175).

Currently, the country has 300,653 active Covid cases, with 7,864 patients hospitalised and 353 in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Of those in the ICU, 193 require respiratory support.

The country also recorded 22,380 recoveries. – February 28, 2022.
