A TOTAL of 1,841 people were hospitalised for Covid-19 yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

Of this, 201 were in Category 1, Category 2 (963), Category 4 (288) and Category 5 (43).

The Ministry of Health breaks down Covid cases into five basic categories: asymptomatic (Category 1), mild symptoms (Category 2), pneumonia-like symptoms (Category 3), serious symptoms requiring respiratory support (Category 4) and severe symptoms requiring acute medial care (Category 5).

The highest number of admissions was in Sabah (1,759), followed by Johor (1,616), Selangor (1,320), Kedah (1,208), Negri Sembilan (1,084), Perak (746), Sarawak (669), Pahang (655), Malacca (636), Penang (617), Kuala Lumpur (590), Kelantan (569), Terengganu (449), Perlis (165), Putrajaya (83) and Labuan (98).

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 41% of their total capacity of 868 beds.

He said 194 patients currently require respiratory support.

ICU beds in eight regions have exceeded 50% capacity: Putrajaya (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (60%), Johor (59%), Kuala Lumpur (58%), Sabah (55%), Malacca (53%) and Selangor (51%).

Meanwhile, a total of 1,376 people were discharged from hospital yesterday, along with 27,557 recoveries. – March 3, 2022.
