A TOTAL of 1,756 people were hospitalised for Covid-19 yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

There were 183 cases in category 1, followed by 849 in category 2, 274 in category 3, 403 in category 4 and 47 in category 5.

The Heakth Ministry of Health breaks down Covid-19 cases into five basic categories: asymptomatic (category 1), mild symptoms (category 2), pneumonia-like symptoms (category 3), serious symptoms requiring respiratory support (category 4), and severe symptoms requiring acute medical care (category 5).

Selangor say the most new virus hospital patients with 265, election-bound Johor (213), Perak (210). 

Other states and territories that reported hospital admissions were Kelantan (148), Penang (129), Kedah (116), Kuala Lumpur (113), Pahang (111), Sabah (94), Terengganu (90), Negri Sembilan (83), Sarawak (59), Malacca (58), Putrajaya (32), Perlis (24), and Labuan (11). 

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 43% of capacity of 868 beds.

He said 216 patients currently require respiratory support.

ICU beds in five regions have exceeded 50% capacity: Selangor (83%), Putrajaya (83%), Johor (70%), Kelantan (69%), and Kuala Lumpur (54%).

Meanwhile, a total of 1,339 people were discharged from hospital yesterday, along with 30,335 recoveries. – March 7, 2022.
