Health Ministry reports 1,869 hospitalised with Covid-19

A TOTAL of 1,869 people were hospitalised for Covid-19 yesterday, the Health Ministry reported.

There were 228 cases in category 1, followed by 916 in category 2, 261 in category 3, 415 in category 4 and 49 in category 5.

The Ministry of Health breaks down Covid-19 cases into five basic categories: asymptomatic (category 1), mild symptoms (category 2), pneumonia-like symptoms (category 3), serious symptoms requiring respiratory support (category 4), and severe symptoms requiring acute medical care (category 5).

The highest number of admissions was Selangor with 265, elections-bound Johor (213), Perak (210), Kelantan (148), Penang (129), Kedah (116), Kuala Lumpur (113), Pahang (111), Sabah (94), Terengganu (90), Negri Sembilan (83), Sarawak (59), Malacca (58), Putrajaya (32), Perlis (24), and Labuan (11).

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 42% of their total capacity of 885 beds.

He said 223 patients currently require respiratory support.

ICU beds in seven regions have exceeded 50% capacity: Kelantan (73%), Putrajaya (67%), Kuala Lumpur (62%), Johor (61%), Selangor (60%), Perak (53%), and Labuan (57%).

Meanwhile, a total of 1,482 people were discharged from hospital yesterday, with 30,726 people recovering from the virus. – March 8, 2022.
