THE Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms in a number of states in the peninsula and Sarawak.

The department said heavy rain is expected from 4pm to 8pm in Selangor, Perlis, Kedah, Pahang, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor.

Meanwhile in Sarawak, the areas expected to be hit by downpour are Kuching, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu Miri and Limbang.

The warning comes as a downpour yesterday caused flash floods in several parts of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Among the affected areas were the Tabung Haji tunnel, Jalan Chan Sow Lin tunnel, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Sri Permaisuri and Jalan Tun Razak.

Seven rivers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are also reported to have exceeded the danger level as at 5.30pm yesterday following heavy rain.
