THE Ministry of Health recorded 1,929 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. 

Of these, 197 cases were in category 1, followed by 998 in category 2, 228 in category 3, 458 in category 4, and 48 in category 5.

Noor Hisham said the ministry admits certain category 1 and 2 cases if they are considered high risk, and require further monitoring.

Yesterday, these two categories accounted for 61.9% of the total Covid-19 admissions. 

The ministry breaks down Covid-19 cases into five basic categories: asymptomatic (category 1), mild symptoms (category 2), pneumonia-like symptoms (category 3), serious symptoms requiring respiratory support (category 4), and severe symptoms requiring acute medical care (category 5).

There were 321 admissions in Selangor, followed by 221 in Johor and 200 in Perak. 

Other states and territories that reported admissions were Kelantan (158), Pahang (139), Kedah (138), Kuala Lumpur (126), Negri Sembilan (122), Sabah (106), Sarawak (104), Penang (91), Terengganu (87), Malacca (55), Perlis (36), Putrajaya (21), and Labuan (4).

Meanwhile, Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 44% of their total capacity of 885 beds.

Noor Hisham said 225 patients currently require respiratory support.

ICU beds in seven regions have exceeded 50% capacity: Kelantan (79%) Kuala Lumpur (73%), Johor (68%), Putrajaya (67%), Selangor (66%), Penang (51%), and Perak (51%).

Meanwhile, a total of 1,672 people were discharged from hospital yesterday, with 26,653 people recovering from the virus. – March 10, 2022.
