THE Health Ministry reported 1,394 Covid-19 hospital admissions yesterday.

Of the total, 840 are in Categories 1 and 2, while 554 are in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Categories 1 and 2 patients will be admitted if considered high risk and required further monitoring.

Categories 1 and 2 cases accounted for 60.3% of the total hospital admissions yesterday.

Category 1 patients are asymptomatic; Category 2 has mild symptoms; Category 3 has pneumonia-like symptoms; Category 4 has serious symptoms requiring respiratory support; and, and Category has severe symptoms requiring acute medical care.

Of the 1,394 admissions yesterday, Selangor claimed the most with 228, followed by Perak (161) and Johor (154).

The rest of the states and territories reported fewer than 140 admissions.

Of the 886 Covid-19 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 44% are occupied. A total of 219 patients require respiratory support.

ICU bed capacity has exceeded 50% in seven states and two territories – Putrajaya (67%), Kuala Lumpur (67%), Perlis (64%), Kelantan (63%), Johor (59%), Selangor (58%), Sarawak (53%), Perak (51%) and Penang (51%).
