PRIME Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob must first discuss with Perikatan Nasional (PN) before making any decision to dissolve Parliament for the general election, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The coalition chairman said he told the prime minister this during a breaking of fast event with the head of government and PN leaders yesterday.

“I reminded the prime minister that PN is the main pact that forms the federal government, hence it should be consulted in determining the date of the dissolution of Parliament,” he said on Facebook today.

Though the government is made up of Barisan Nasional (BN) and PN, both share an acrimonious relationship and contested against each other in recent state elections in Sabah, Malacca and Johor.

BN’s Umno has already decided that it will not continue cooperation with PN and Bersatu for GE15.

PN leaders Muhyiddin, Abdul Hadi Awang, Dominic Lau, Jeffrey Kitingan and Yong Teck Lee met Ismail Sabri for breaking of fast at Sri Perdana in Putrajaya yesterday.

“The prime minister emphasised the cooperative relationship with PN in the federal government and is committed to consult with the coalition in determining key policies in the country,” said Muhyiddin.

The Bersatu supreme council has given the party president the mandate to seek cooperation with other parties in facing the 15th general election (GE15).

Party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the council decided that Muhyiddin, who chairs the party’s political bureau, should explore election strategies with other parties, following a discussion on current political developments and the Johor polls.

Muhyiddin last week admitted that he has sought a meeting with Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad over a possible cooperation for GE15.

Mingguan Malaysia earlier reported that Pakatan Harapan has not closed the door on cooperation with Bersatu.

“Although, the issue has not been brought up, it does not mean we have closed the door on it,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was quoted as saying.

“PKR is prepared to explore any potential partnership in whatever form. If we cannot directly cooperate, maybe we can reach an understanding.” – April 10, 2022.
