6,623 new Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths

MALAYSIA has recorded a drop in Covid-19 cases after reporting 6,623 new infections yesterday, the Health Ministry said. There were 9,705 cases reported the previous day.

A total of 12 Covid-19 deaths were also logged, of which eight were classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The death toll stands at 35,421, of which 7,496 are DOA.

Total infections stand at 4,389,025 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The Klang Valley contributed 4,653 of the new cases, comprising 4,137 in Selangor, 500 in Kuala Lumpur, and 16 in Putrajaya.

Perak reported 413 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (330), Johor (294), Penang (200), Malacca (152), Terengganu (133), Sarawak (119), Kedah (114), Pahang (93), Sabah (69), Kelantan (36), Perlis (13), and Labuan (4).

Of the 12 fatalities reported, Kedah recorded four deaths, followed by Penang (3), Sarawak (2), and Malacca, Perak and Selangor with one each.

There were no deaths in Kelantan, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Sabah, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

The fatality rate stands at 0.2% and the cumulative fatality rate, at 0.8%. – April 18, 2022.
