MALAYSIA continues to record a drop in Covid-19 cases, after reporting 5,624 new infections yesterday, the Health Ministry said.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of nine Covid-19 deaths were also logged, of which two were classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The death toll stands at 35,491.

Some 4.42 million people have been infected since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The Klang Valley contributed 4,230 of the new cases, comprising 3,583 in Selangor, 565 in Kuala Lumpur, and 82 in Putrajaya.

Perak reported 312 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (265), Penang (169), Sarawak (134), Johor (129), Malacca (95), Kedah (94), Putrajaya (82), Pahang (75), Sabah (65), Kelantan (23), Terengganu (21), Labuan (9) and Perlis (3).

Of the nine fatalities reported, Kedah recorded six deaths, followed by Johor (1), Sabah (1) and Sarawak (1).

The fatality rate stands at 0.2% and the cumulative fatality rate, at 0.8%. – April 24, 2022.
