THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has enough evidence to charge three individuals allegedly linked to corruption in Mara Corp, but the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has yet to say whether any charge will be filed.

Chief commissioner Azam Baki said the agency has not been told whether any charge will not be brought against any suspect.

He was responding to a Malaysia Gazette report that speculated charges will not be filed.

“After the investigation was completed, MACC suggested several names to be charged to the AGC,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today.

“So far, we have no information (regarding the case). So, I have no comment on the matter.”

The anti-graft agency submitted its completed investigation papers to the AGC in April.

MACC probed Mara Corp – a Majlis Amanah Rakyat investment holding firm – in February, following a report on abuse of power and mismanagement.

Five people allegedly involved in the case were named in a tweet by anonymous whistle-blowing Twitter account @EdisiSiasat.

The senior officials later lodged individual reports to deny the allegations at the Dang Wangi police station.

MACC raided the Mara Corp office in February.

Of the five, only three were mentioned in the investigation papers submitted to the AGC.

Mara Corp executive director Suhaili Abdul Rahman, who accused the five men of integrity issues, was not investigated.

She told Mara chairman Azizah Mohd Dun of the allegations in an official letter on January 30.

In the letter, which was forwarded to The Malaysian Insight, Suhaili asked for an independent investigation into the quintet.

Azam said MACC has done its part with regard to the case.

“Our job is to investigate, and the available evidence is sufficient for the agency to propose the charges.” – June 14, 2022.
