THE Selangor government’s refusal to oppose the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) project has left affected residents unhappy over promises made by Pakatan Harapan (PH) not to proceed with the highway.

Residents in the Coalition Against PJD Link group say they are shocked by the lack of action from Selangor’s PH government.

The group’s leader, Sheikh Moqhtar Kadir, said PH politicians who previously said the project will not go ahead have not kept their promise.

“A number of prominent PH leaders showed up and promised that we will not hear about the PJD Link project if we voted for them.

“Yet we are still hearing about the project today and nothing much has been done about it,” he said today during an event at Plaza 33, Petaling Jaya, to submit a memorandum to the PH presidential council.

The memorandum was received by DAP’s Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu.

Sheikh Moqhtar said Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran was one of those who previously gave assurance that the PJD Link will not see the light of day if voters supported him.

“Unfortunately, the project is still in the wind, it has not been dropped even though we have wanted it eliminated.”

Sheikh Moqhtar said adding another highway to Petaling Jaya was unnecessary and residents would rather have more public transport options.

The elevated highway is said to be a revival of the previous Kidex project, which was also opposed by residents and which PH eventually dumped.

However, Works Minister Fadillah Yusof has said in recent months that the PJD Link project is on track.

The proposed highway will cross over the Federal Highway to connect the Damansara area to Kinrara, with links to areas in Puchong, Bukit Damansara and Petaling Jaya along the way.

Selangor executive councillor Izham Hashim, when asked recently about the status of the project after Fadilah said it was going ahead, has said talks are still ongoing, and that reports have not yet been submitted. – July 18, 2022.
