SHAH Alam police are looking for workers who caried out renovation work at the home of former newsreader Zalina Azman who has been reported missing since November 2021. 

District police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said these workers could help in the investigation into Zalina’s disappearance.

“We are still trying to locate the workers involved in the renovation as they may be able to help the investigation,” he said in a media statement today.

Previously, Mohammad Bokhari Sharif, 76, who runs a tahfiz next to Zalina’s house in Seksyen 3, Shah Alam, claimed that there was renovation work done on the house in 2019.

However, work was halted a few months before Zalina disappeared.

Iqbal added that police has so far recorded the statements of six family members to help in the investigation.

“Six family members have recorded their statements after the police report was made (on November 29 last year),” he said.

On Monday, the Shah Alam district police headquarters made an announcement about Zalina’s disappearance, eight months after first receiving a missing person’s report. 

The 58-year-old woman was reported missing by her son who claimed to have failed to reach his mother since November 24 last year.

Iqbal later told Bernama that Zalina’s mobile phone was turned off on November 20 last year.

He said police believe that Zalina may have disappeared before November 29, the date that she was reported missing.

“We wouldn’t have known that she had gone missing if her son didn’t try to contact her,” he told Bernama during a visit to Zalina’s house with Bernama chairman Ras Adiba Radzi. 

“Zalina may have gone missing earlier… we checked and found that on November 20 her phone was turned off (no record of outgoing or incoming calls), whether it was because the battery had run out, we are not sure,” he said. – July 22, 2022.
