THE chief secretary to the government has announced that Attorney-General Idrus Harun will lead the committee set up to investigate the incident involving a senior government official and an Immigration officer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) recently.

In a statement, Mohd Zuki Ali said the committee will also include Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Zuki the committee’s findings would be forwarded to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for the next steps.

“The results and recommendations of the investigation will be presented to the prime minister for further consideration,” he said.

On Wednesday, an Immigration officer at KLIA was said to have been berated in public by a high-ranking government official because no one was at the VIP counter to attend to the latter when he arrived.

However, the Public Service Department (PSD) denied accusations that its director-general had verbally abused the Immigration officer.

PSD said the accusations were baseless and malicious, and were intended to ruin the image of a government official.

It said the DG had simply chided the officer for not adhering to procedures for travellers leaving the country.

Ismail yesterday said the matter had been discussed in the cabinet as he did not want to see disunity among government servants following the incident.

“The cabinet has agreed to ask the chief secretary to the government to look into the matter and set up an internal committee.

“We must be fair to all parties, namely the complainant and the respondent,” he said. – August 7, 2022.
