LEADER of the opposition Anwar Ibrahim will cut the salary of the prime minister if he takes office in an ailing economy.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said the first thing he will do is to cut his own pay.

“The number of ministers should be reduced; the salaries of ministers and deputy ministers should be reduced.

“I can’t bear to take a high salary if the current economic situation persists,” he said at the PH convention in Ipoh last night.

Anwar said if given the mandate, PH must protect the welfare of the people, especially those facing hardships.

Malaysia will vote on November 19. Early polling will take place on November 15.

Pahang, Perlis, and Perak will be holding polls at the same time.

At the event last night, PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail  announced Anwar as PH’s prime ministerial candidate should the coalition succeed in returning to Putrajaya.

Saifuddin also said that the PH component consisting of PKR, DAP, Amanah, and UPKO had completed their seat distributions for GE15.

He, however, said negotiations between external parties will be completed in the near future.

“The negotiations with the non-PH parties will be completed in two or three days to reach a final decision,” he said.

Anwar also confirmed he will be contesting for the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th general election. – October 21, 2022.
