EXPECT disruptions on the Kelana Jaya LRT line in the coming months, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

He warned commuters that disruptions are expected to continue to the third quarter of next year.

“I apologise for this. We are doing everything we can to make sure the disruptions do not happen frequently. As of now, our services are not fully stable and I’m sorry for that,” he told a media conference today

The newly minted minister said there were 56 LRT train sets operating on the Kelana Jaya line, and of this 18 were on maintenance.

He said this meant that at any given time during the day 38 were running.

He said current train frequency was at five minutes, at each station, adding that the intervals will go down to three minutes once all the trains were running.

Loke said Prasarana had ordered 19 new train sets, with the first expected to arrive next year.

“I have told Prasarana to speed up maintenance of the 18 train sets. By June next year, we hope everything will be stable,” he said.

Last month the line was shut down due to a faulty automated train control system.

As a result, operator Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said the LRT service between the Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park stations was suspended for one week from 6am today, in the interest of passenger safety and to allow the authorities to identify the real cause of the problem.

However, LRT services between the Gombak and Damai stations, and between Lembah Subang and Putra Heights are still operating. – December 8, 2022.
