ASYRAF Wajdi Dusuki today said he will not defend the Umno Youth chief’s post in the party’s upcoming elections.

Asyraf, who contested and lost in the Gerik parliamentary constituency in the recent general election, said the decision was made to take responsibility for the party’s dismal performance in the polls.

“I can say that I will take responsibility and apologise for my mistakes and failure to lead you all,” he said in his closing speech at the Umno Youth annual general meeting at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

“I have tried my best (but we failed). That’s why I have decided not to defend my position as Umno Youth chief.”

Asyraf hopes his successor can take the wing to a higher level.

“I take this responsibility to ensure that our wing becomes strong again, and be led by a new team who can bring fresh ideas,” he said. – January 12, 2023.
