THE unity government today is intact with the support of all parties involved, but there are efforts to challenge and overthrow the government, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

The PKR president did not rule out a move against the government but believes that it will continue to survive.

“We want to establish a government that will go on for five years so that we can correct the damage that has happened and develop the country.

“I believe there is an effort to topple the existing government, but I also believe that our cooperation is strong. This government will remain intact for the next five years,” he said.

Anwar was referring to Perikatan Nasional (PN) and its component parties campaign to topple the government.

Earlier this month, PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang admitted that efforts were being made by their coalition to topple the government.

Hadi said the action could be accomplished and no party could stop PN from overthrowing the government led by Anwar.

In his policy speech at the PKR special national congress today, Anwar expressed his appreciation to the parties in the unity government for their support.

“I would like to thank DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as the coalition from Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, Warisan and Muda for their continued support.

He also praised the performance of his Cabinet that was not involved in any scandals.

“Of course there are those that criticise (the government). But there have not been any incidents of questioning the independence of the judiciary, there is transparency in awarding projects and not allowing leaders to get rich.

“Never once in the four months we have been in power has there been any interference or objection from any leader in the government,” he said. – March 18, 2023.
