SIX key figures of companies allegedly linked to the RM1.18 billion Ijok land deal were arrested by the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

The suspects, aged between 35 and 86, were nabbed in Petaling Jaya between 12.45pm and 4pm, said the anti-graft agency’s chief Dzulkifli Ahmad.

“They are expected to be remanded tomorrow to facilitate investigation,” Dzulkifli said at a function in Malacca.

The Ijok land deal came into focus last month when BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan questioned Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali why the state government had “hastily” returned the land to two housing developers.

Rahman had said the state government’s action was questionable because the high court and the Court of Appeal had in 2013 and 2014 respectively, ruled that the land belonged to the Selangor government after then menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim moved to seize the land using the Land Acquisition Act.

However, settlers involved in the case questioned BN’s motive in highlighting the issue when the majority of settlers have received their dues.

Dzulkifli told the media that among the six were a father and his son.

The investigating team also froze nine bank accounts belonging to individuals and companies with a total of RM39 million in them.

MACC also seized few important documents from three of the companies to facilitate the probe, sources said.

The MACC investigation involved RM200 million payment transacted into the accounts of five companies allegedly involved in the case.

Each received about RM68 million, RM42 million, RM16.5 million and RM8.5 million respectively.

MACC is now trying to trace the whereabouts of a company director and another individual to assist the probe. – March 20, 2018.
