THE unity government is committed and focused on restoring the country’s economy and practising good governance, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said.

The Petra Jaya MP said those are among the administration’s top priorities.

“From the summary of all the speeches (made at the National Unity Government Convention), including the prime minister’s (Anwar Ibrahim) speech, I can conclude that this unity government is committed to ensure it focuses first and foremost on the recovery of the country’s economy and (practice of) good governance that will benefit our people,” Fadillah told reporters today after the inaugural National Unity Government Convention at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

The convention, held for the first time, saw party leaders discussing and pledging their commitment to solving people’s problems, including economic issues, future development of a nation-state, the concept of Madani and the implementation of people’s agenda.

Fadillah, the first deputy prime minister from Sarawak in the cabinet line-up, thanked the unity government secretariat for organising such a convention, which received support from people of every level.

“From the top leaders who established the unity government and everyone present today, this is an unexpected response,” the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) parliamentary chief whip said.

The convention was held over one day for the first time after the government was formed following last year’s general election.

The unity government comprises 19 component parties including BN, PH and GPS.

The convention, themed “Madani – Mewajahi Masa Depan Malaysia (Madani – Envisaging Malaysia’s Future)” is part of the government’s drive to foster unity among former rival parties ahead of the six state elections. – May 14, 2023.
