PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s frequent flip-flop decisions will scare away investors, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin said.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general said the situation would certainly not be good for the national economy if the prime minister kept changing positions on policy.

“If that’s the way he is going to do things, this will drive investors away from this country.

“Tomorrow he says policy will help, then incentives will help but the next day he said he didn’t say that. What will happen in the end? Investors will run away,” he said at the launch of the PN state elections machinery in Marang, Terengganu last night.

He said the opposition is often blamed and accused of trying to discredit the government, although it is clear it is the prime minister’s own failure.

He said he has yet to see how Anwar intends to drive the economy in a way that benefits the people.

This clearly includes a solution to a soaring cost of living.

“That’s what we asked. We ask for solutions to help the people. Find a solution to lower the price of goods and increase people’s income. Now the power to buy is no longer in the hands of the people,” he said.

Hamzah said if PN is given the chance to become the government, the people’s problems, especially in the issue of improving the economy and the cost of living, will be given priority.

The opposition has heavily criticised Anwar and accused him of making a flip-flop decision on the issue of chicken and egg subsidies, as well as the Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships.

In addition, PSD scholarships for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy will also not be continued.

Anwar later U-turned by saying he would continue giving subsidies.

He later defended his flip-flop decision, saying he does not mind doing so if it can help ease the burden people’s burden. – June 17, 2023.
