THE Kuala Terengganu High Court has annulled PAS lawmaker Ahmad Amzad Hashim’s victory in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat in the last general election, paving the way for a by-election.

Judge Firruz Jaffril read out the decision.

Barisan Nasional and Umno candidate Mohd Zubir Embong filed the appeal last January.

Umno alleged there was clear evidence from witnesses who said they received money from PAS, which was “fishing” for votes.

In the last election, Amzad won the seat with 40,907 vote majority.

Amzad’s counsel, Yusfarizal Yusoff, said they would appeal to the Federal Court in the next two weeks.

Unlike other cases, election petition appeals go straight to the apex court, bypassing the Court of Appeal.

Amzad said the court had agreed to stay the decision until the appeal was heard by the Federal court. – June 27, 2023.
