2 Chinese nationals in KLIA commotion have returned home, says MACC chief

TWO Chinese nationals linked to a minister who was at the the centre of a commotion at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) arrival hall last week have returned to China, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki said.
Azam said the two women went back today.
“I don’t know if they are coming back to Malaysia,” he told reporters at a media function in Putrajaya today.
The MACC chief said the anti-graft agency had recorded statements from 14 individuals regarding last Thursday’s incident, including the two women, as well as Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing.
Tiong created a stir last week when he purportedly barged into the KLIA Terminal 1 Arrival area to “rescue” a Chinese national who was detained upon entering the country.
He said certain corrupt Immigration officials had prevented tourists with valid documents from entering Malaysia at the airport and demanded money in exchange for their release.
Following Tiong’s allegation, MACC pledged to investigate the matter. – July 5, 2023.
