MORE than 70,000 police personnel will be deployed nationwide to maintain peace and order during the 14th general election, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
The figure, he said, translated to 69% of the total police force (130,401).
Fuzi said the police are 100% ready to face the general election.
In a related issue, Fuzi said Kuala Lumpur police had been instructed to deal with the protest planned by election watchdog Bersih 2.0.
The protest, which was to be held in front of Parliament tomorrow, will instead be held at the National Monument some few hundred metres away.
“If they going against the law, of course we will take action. They will be investigated under PAA 2012 (Peaceful Assembly Act),” said Fuzi.
He added that police are aware about the planned protest and have already taken measures.
Earlier, Fuzi awarded commendation certificates to staff who had done well in their job.
A total of 10,133 police and civilian personnel received excellence awards. – March 27, 2018.
