Ambiga blasts opposition leaders for great disservice to Anwar

OPPOSITION leaders are doing Anwar Ibrahim a great disservice by making it look as if he is only interested in being prime minister, former Bersih 2.0 chairman Ambiga Sreenevasan said today.
She said the leaders should stop fighting amongst themselves and think about the greater good of the country.
“My own view is, I may lose friends for saying this. They (the opposition) are doing Anwar Ibrahim a terrible disservice. They make it like Anwar is only interested in becoming prime minister.
“I am sure that if Anwar was asked whether he or the country should come first, he would definitely say the country must come first.
“They should take a step back and consider what they are doing,” she said in a social concerns forum entitled “Emerging Issues of the Coming Elections” at Wesley Methodist Church in Kuala Lumpur today.
The formalisation of the Pakatan Harapan coalition was brought to a halt yesterday when Anwar sent a letter from jail saying he wanted to keep the original PH lineup, and this scuppered the coalition’s plan to unveil its lineup yesterday.
In the forum, Ambiga mentioned that the opposition should not take the voters for granted even though Malaysians want a change.
“The Anwar factor is not there in the next election… there are plenty of talented MPs in the opposition for the next general election.
“I personally think the opposition still has a chance because Malaysians still want a change,” she said.
Ambiga added that the public is annoyed with the opposition for the internal fighting and should instead focus on how to change the government.
“I know the people are annoyed with the opposition. The government has been here for 60 years, and it must go because otherwise our democracy must suffer.” – June 10, 2017.
