THE government wants to resolve the FGV boardroom crisis before the end of Ramadan, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today.
The solution has to be based on three core principles – adhering to the Companies Act, good governance and undergoing a fair process, he said.
FGV shares plummeted by up to 30% over the week CEO Zakaria Arshad and three others were suspended pending an internal inquiry.
Zakaria is alleged to have been involved in questionable deals between FGV subsidiary Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd and an Afghan company.
The government has appointed former CEO of MAS Idris Jala to resolve the crisis.
“I had a discussion with Felda chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad and FGV chairman Isa Samad and decided to appoint Idris Jala to investigate what happened,” Najib said in his speech after a breaking of fast event at Felda Sayong in Bandar Tenggara, Johor.
Najib also announced goodies for the Felda settlers and public servants to help them prepare for Hari Raya.
He then left to perform Tarawikh prayers with the settlers at the nearby mosque. – June 10, 2017.
