POLICE will seek a warrant of arrest against controversial Umno leader Jamal Yunos, who has refused to cooperate in the investigations.

Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmad said they have given Jamal enough chances and ample time to turn up to assist in the investigations against him, but the Red Shirt leader has refused to cooperate.

Last Friday, he escaped from a private hospital in Ampang while under remand and today, failed to turn up at the Ampang police station after promising to do so.

Instead, Jamal came up with a video, asking the home minister to guarantee that he will not be “persecuted” if he surrenders.

“We have given him ample time. Now we will seek an arrest warrant against him and all efforts to track him down will be intensified,” said Fadzil in a statement today.

Jamal is being investigated for nine cases.

“Investigations into three of the cases have been completed for which he was charged at the Ampang Puteri Hospital on May 25. There are another six cases that need further investigation.”

In the video released earlier today, Jamal also alleged that there were “powerful” people and hidden hands using the police to get him.

He said he did not reject the law but felt victimised when his name was blacklisted by the Immigration Department, put under the police watch list and declared a dangerous person, adding that his rights as a Malaysian have been violated.

“My house was raided, my family hunted down and the way the police came after me as was as if they were pressured by those in power. It is as though I have committed a serious crime like treason,” the Sungai Besar Umno division chief said.

He ended the video urging police to give him more time. – May 30, 2018.
