INSPECTOR- General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar today told whistleblower site Sarawak Report (SR) to stop making wild allegations against him and his men in connection with the ‘protection racket’ in Malacca, currently being investigated by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“We all know that the case is being investigated by the MACC. SR does not need to interfere. Just wait for MACC to complete its probe,” he said, adding SR has a hidden agenda to defame him and his officers.
The IGP said he is not answerable to SR or to the defunct Crime Watch founder S. Sanjeevan.
SR in its report had alleged that Khalid and his family know one of the suspects, identified as “Gobi”, who was arrested by MACC in investigations into the protection racket.
The whitleblower site urged Khalid to reveal his link with Gopi, as the suspect has direct phone contact with him.
“I’m not answerable to Sarawak Report or Sanjeevan. MACC is investigating. Let them ask the question. Let’s not get pulled into this SR agenda,” he said.
Last month, MACC arrested 12 suspects, most of them policemen from Malacca, for allegedly protecting gambling dens and illegal massage parlours in the state.
Among them were the Melaka Tengah and Jasin district police chiefs. Also nabbed was a civilian who was alleged to be the mastermind behind the protection racket.
The MACC investigations are still ongoing.
Following the arrests, Khalid ordered a major reshuffle within Malacca police contingent.
Federal police in Bukit Aman is also conducting an internal inquiry into this case. – June 16, 2017.
