MALAYSIA must retain its best and brightest scholars in the country, said Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran.

“The brain drain starts after Form Five, our top students are attracted to go to Singapore.

“This is where we must stop it,” he told some 400 entrepreneurs gathered at Temple of Fine Arts in Brickfields this afternoon.

To retain talent, Pakatan Harapan has pledged to increase scholarship opportunities and tuition subsidies for children from B40 and M40 families.

The coalition also promises to increase the number of scholarship for Felda settlers’ children and create special scholarship schemes for teachers.

“If the brain drain can stop, we (our country) will do much better,” said Kulasegaran.

Barisan Nasional had slashed the number of overseas scholarships awarded by the Public Service Department for school leavers previously.

“My own classmates have gone to Singapore. One of them is a very well-to-do CEO now in New Zealand, earning more than RM100,000 a month. That’s brain drain,” he said.

He said PH is committed to implementing the institutional reforms that will rebuild the country and retain talent.

“The ministers, MPs and assemblymen are working towards a greater and happier Malaysia.

“We want to empower especially our youth,” he added. – June 10, 2018.
