MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officials last week raided the Tourism Malaysia office in Putrajaya last week and seized several documents, said director-general of Tourism Malaysia Mirza Mohammad Raiyab.

“This is something you should get from MACC. They have the documents and are studying them,” Mirza told reporters after meeting the Council of Eminent Persons at Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur today.

He declined to say more.

The Star reported last week that the MACC visited Tourism Malaysia headquarters on June 6 to investigate an RM99 million procurement deal awarded to a local company.

Former Tourism Malaysia chairman Wee Choo Keong alleged on May 31 that the contract violated the Tourism and Culture Ministry’s procurement rules.

Wee today called for Tourism Malaysia chairman Siew Ka Wai’s resignation over the allegations but Siew and Tourism Malaysia have denied wrongdoing.

Wee said his checks showed project contract to promote Malaysia on social media was awarded to a company that was less than five months old at the time.

He said the top management of Tourism Malaysia were shareholders of the company. – June 11, 2018.
