A WANTED criminal and his accomplice were shot dead by Kuala Lumpur police in a special operation in Bandar Baru Sentul this morning.
Both died on the spot in the 3.30am incident, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Mazlan Lazim said.
The two suspects, who were travelling in two separate vehicles, were spotted behaving suspiciously by the City Serious Crimes division team that were in the area for Ops Rantau.
Ops Rantau is a special operation conducted by the police in its bid to curb criminal activities as Hari Raya approaches.
Mazlan said the duo upon seeing the cops, drove off in two Proton Wajas in two different directions. One took a right turn near a housing project in Bandar Baru Sentul while another took the left turn.
They then fired several shots at the authorities after their attempt to escape a police blockade turned futile.
“In that moment, the police has to defend themselves and returned fire. Both suspects were killed on the spot,” he said.
One suspect was shot dead near a mosque while the other was killed 7km away.
Police seized two pistols, several bullets and empty casings, three machetes, a ski mask, gloves and rolls of copper wires that were believed to have been stolen from a construction site in the area.
Checks on the suspects aged 26 and 46 showed that one of them was on the police wanted list for house break-ins while the other had five criminal records for extortion and drug related offences. – June 18, 2017.
