KEPONG residents want the Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa to explain how land that was originally a flood retention pond ended up being sold to build a high-rise condominium project.

Representing the residents, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the land at Taman Wahyu, originally a flood detention pond, is now being reclaimed for a 44-acre condominium project.

“He should explain why he allowed this 80-acre land where… (it was) given as a grant to a company to sell it to other developers immediately.

“If it is an affordable housing project we can accept, but the company got the land and then sold it immediately; this is not correct. We want Ali Hamsa to explain why he allowed it to happen,” he said to reporters at Taman Wahyu today.

The land deal took place during Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s tenure as federal territories minister.

Previously it was reported that Ali Hamsa had instructed the Federal Territories Director of Lands and Mines Office Kuala Lumpur to freeze all transactions involving the transfer of land owned by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The Federal Territories Land and Mines Office comes under Ali’s purview.

The land at Taman Wahyu, called the Sungai Jinjang Phase 2 flood detention pond at Batu, was originally owned by the Federal Territories Lands and Mines department and sold to Maqamad Sdn Bhd in 2015, without any open tender being called.

“The market price here is at least RM250 psf but it was sold only for RM68 psf (RM237,142,547) to Maqamad Sdn Bhd,” Lim said, adding that Ali Hamsa should explain why this was done and who had given instructions to approve the project.

Maqamad sold the land in April 2018 to a joint venture development for a high rise project.

“The project is solely to build condominiums; no public housing, no affordable housing, no school, no nothing.

“This land is sold without tender, directly to the company. Ali Hamsa must tell, who had given the instruction to approve this project, which was done during Tengku Adnan’s era,” said Lim. – June 16, 2018
