INSPECTOR-General of Police Mohd Fuzi Harun’s appearance at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters raised eyebrows and speculation that he was assisting in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) probe.

MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull, however, dismissed the idea, saying Fuzi was paying the commission a courtesy call.

“No, he is not (on the investigating team). He is here on a courtesy visit,” Shukri clarified in a text message to The Malaysian Insight.

Fuzi turned up with large police entourage close to 3pm. Reporters scrambled to interview him but the convoy of vehicles was directed to the parking area on the ground floor of the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

The MACC was a hive of activity today as the anti-graft officers questioned several high-profile individuals in connection with the 1MDB scandal.

BN leader and former Felda chairman Shahrir Samad first showed up, followed by former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The afternoon saw the appearance of Riza Aziz, the stepson of embattled former prime minister Najib Razak, who was accompanied by his lawyers. – July 3, 2018.
