KUALA Lumpur City Hall will reveal the KL City Plan 2020 next week after a decade-long wait.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said he wanted the plan to be gazetted, but DBKL needed to determine first whether the plan was feasible.

“If there are any developments that go against the plan, we have to determine their implications first. We may have to update the plan.

“(But) I am in favour of gazetting it immediately,” he said at Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

He said that a lot of things had changed since the KL City Plan 2020 was completed in 2008.

“But we must understand developments have already gone against it, so there may be some legal implications,” he said.

He added that DBKL and the ministry would have to factor in the costs of implementing the city plan.

“We have to talk about developments that are already building and what will happen when the city plan is approved… Which may bring DBKL ill will. We will have to update the local plan first, but this will take time.

“So based on that, we have to wait a week for DBKL to gazette the plan,” he said.

The KL City Plan 2020 has come against various criticism for allowing DBKL to approve development projects illegally.

Although the plan was launched in 2008, it has not been gazetted.

Last year, DBKL said it was pointless to gazette the plan as it was outdated and due to expire.

Instead, Kuala Lumpur mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said there would be discussions for the drafting of a new plan, the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2050. – July 9, 2018.
