PAKATAN Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad will take the stand in his son Mukhriz’s defamation suit against the prime minister’s press secretary, Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad, at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.
He is slotted for cross-examination by the defendant’s lawyer, Jaharberdeen Mohamed Yunoos, at 3pm.
Mukhriz’s lead counsel, Mohammed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, informed the court of this at noon.
He said his client and Dr Mahathir were the only two witnesses to take the stand today in the defamation suit.
Earlier, Haniff questioned the credibility of a writer, whose article was published in Malaysia Today, and submitted by the defendant’s lawyer.
He asked why Sariffuddin had referred to the article to make the defamatory statement against Mukhriz as the writer had fled the country while facing a sedition charge.
Earlier today, Jahaberdeen crossed-examined Mukhriz on the content of his defamation suit against Sariffuddin.
Mukhriz filed a defamation suit against Sariffuddin on May 3 last year.
He said Sariffuddin had issued four libellous media statements against him on April 15, 20, 23 and 26.
The former Kedah menteri besar said he had given notice through a media statement on April 21 asking Sariffuddin to retract the statements or risk legal action.
Mukhriz is seeking for damages for loss of reputation. – July 14, 2017.
