ALL national schools would receive equal allocation from the federal government in due time, said Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said under the current system, some national schools were fully subsidised while others were partially subsidised.

“They are all public schools and serving our children. We hope to abolish such a system,” Teo told The Malaysian Insight in an interview on Facebook Live, tonight.

Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools in Malaysia receive partial subsidies while Malay-medium schools are fully subsidised.

Some Chinese and Tamil educationists have long resented the system which left the vernacular schools to fend for themselves.

However, Teo said the ministry needed to further study the matter in view of the Finance Ministry’s three-year austerity plan.

“It’s challenging for the Education Ministry because the number of students keep increasing every year,” she said.

In the meantime, the ministry will focus on providing allocation for schools with the most urgent needs. – July 12, 2018.
