PAKATAN Harapan (PH) can build a better Mass Rail Transit (MRT) system than Barisan Nasional and at a cheaper cost too, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah said.

Commenting on today’s launch of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line, Nurul said an MRT project under the opposition would cover more areas at a lower cost than the RM21 billion system constructed by BN.

“Without any shame, (Prime Minister) Najib (Razak) thumped his chest and said, ‘I give MRT as a gift to the people’

“I want to say thank you (Najib) for the line in Sungai Buloh and Kajang.

“But I want to tell Najib Razak that without wastage under Pakatan Harapan with the former deputy prime minister and prime minister, we can build the MRT project with a wider network and at a much lower cost,” she told a cheering crowd at PH’s ceramah in Shah Alam.

This is the second stop in a road show by PH to explain the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal to Malay Muslims who are key voters in the next general election.

Investigations are being carried out in six countries all over the world into how about US$4.5 billion (RM19.3 billion) has been allegedly siphoned off from the state firm.

The United States Department of Justice (DoJ) alleged that some of that money has flowed into the accounts of “Malaysian Official1” or had been used to buy jewellery for that individual’s wife.

The ceramah is also the first programme by the coalition after it announced its much-awaited leadership line-up.

Although it is an urban parliamentary seat, Shah Alam’s Malay Muslim residents are well-known for being conservative. The city is also home to a large Malay émigré populace from Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. – July 17, 2017.
