MALAYSIA was the Saudi Arabian King’s choice for the King Salman Centre for International Peace, said Prime Minister Najib Razak today.

Najib said he was told by the chief adviser to the King of Saudi Arabia Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud, that even though the Arab country had “other choices”, Malaysia was chosen because of its exemplary display of racial unity.

“The chief adviser to King Salman, told me that when they wanted to choose a country to house the King Salman Centre for International Peace, they could choose any country, but they chose Malaysia because they take Malaysia as a model choice,” Najib said in his keynote speech at the launch of the Putrajaya Islam Complex today.

The centre in Putrajaya began operations on May 30. Its mission is correct the world’s perception of Islam as well as deflect the influence of extremism and terrorist activities and promote universal peace.

“This is why they said what I said in the previous United Nations meeting that this is the authentic Islam, and it is only in Malaysia that this authentic Islam is practised,” Najib said.
