FORMER minister Nazri Abdul Aziz has declared his support for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the actions his administration has taken with regard to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Nazri said his track record of 28 years in politics would show that he had never gone against a prime minister.

“He was my prime minister previously, and I have never left Umno, he is the one who left Umno. But now he is the prime minister so we must support him; my record shows I have never gone against the prime minister.

“And I support what he is doing now, the exposes show what I didn’t know about when I was in the government. I didn’t know about Rosmah’s jewellery, SRC International. So we have to let the prime minister investigate and if there is a prima facie case, then take action (against the perpetrators),” he told reporters in the Parliament lobby, today.

The Padang Rengas MP said he was shocked by disclosures relating to former prime minister Najib Razak, including reports of RM116.7 million cash that were seized by police from premises linked to his old boss.

“When I was a minister I was never informed about the money and Jho Low, it was not disclosed.

“When Dr Mahathir accused Anwar (Ibrahim), we were loyal (to our party leader) and it was the same with Abdullah and Najib (when they were the party leader).

“It is only now that we know (about Najib and 1MDB). I have remained silent till now because I wanted to see what else will be revealed,” he said.

In June, federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh announced that RM116.7 million in 26 currencies, packed in 35 bags, was seized in raids on premises linked to the former Umno president.

Najib faces a total of seven charges: three of money-laundering, three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of misusing his position. All charges so far are linked to SRC International.

He is accused of accepting RM42 million from SRC International Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB, which is Najib’s brainchild. Najib had formerly served as chairman of the 1MDB advisory board.

The money-laundering charges are related to three tranches – RM27 million, RM5 million and RM10 million – banked into Najib’s AmBank account between December 2014 and February 2015. – August 14, 2018.
