DON’T waste time with debates, PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin told Fuziah Salleh, a contestant for the post in the upcoming party polls.

Zuraida said Fuziah should instead focus more on her responsibilities as a deputy minister in the prime minister’s department.

“This is what Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, the same mentality – the mentality to oppose. We are the government of the day. Therefore, we must lead and show the the people what a government is like,” Zuraida said after officiating the Girl2Leader Malaysia event in Hotel Corus, Kuala Lumpur today.

She was referring to Dr Mahathir’s comments two days ago that some Pakatan Harapan politicians still had the “opposition mindset”.

Dr Mahathir is the coalition’s chairman.

Fuziah yesterday said she was ready to debate with her challenger, Haniza Talha, anytime. Zuraida is not defending the post in party elections that begin next month.

The major posts, except for the presidency, will see contests between candidates from rival camps under Rafizi Ramli and Mohamed Azmin Ali.

The two men are battling it out for the deputy president’s post, currently held by Azmin.

Rafizi has invited Azmin to a debate, which Azmin has rejected, saying the PKR elections are an internal party matter and do not need to have debates in public as candidates are  not going for government posts.

Zuraida, an Azmin supporter, said now was the time to work instead of debate.

“What more for her (Fuziah) as a deputy minister. Don’t waste time with such things. Do your work, go down to the ground. Improve the life of the people,” said Zuraida who is also housing and local government minister. – August 19, 2018.
