PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin today welcomed Anwar Ibrahim’s reminder to candidates contesting in the party polls to avoid using dirty tactics during the campaign period.

The Ampang MP said that dirty politics had no place in the country and should not be practised by PKR.

“I feel that it is appropriate for Anwar Ibrahim to issue that reminder as he is going to lead the party.

“It was timely for him to issue such a warning against gutter politics,” she said today after launching the Girl2Leader programme in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, Anwar warned PKR members contesting in the party polls to not play dirty or face the consequences.

The incoming president warned against vote buying, intimidation, and slander, as these were all against the rules.

“They must observe ethics. No vote buying, intimidation, and slander.

“We will take action against any excesses,” Anwar told reporters after chairing a meeting with national laureates.

Zuraida, who will be contesting for the vice-president’s post, said gutter politics should be avoided in the party.

“We are in a new era where gutter politics have no place, especially when we are the government. It is not right to use these tactics.

“I hope my friends who are still playing dirty during this campaign period will stop. We must work to bring change to this country,” said Zuraida, who is known to be an Azmin Ali loyalist.

However, the housing and local government minister did not mention any individuals.

It is believed that Zuraida is speaking of Rafizi Ramli’s camp, which has been attacking Azmin, whom Rafizi is challenging for the deputy president’s post.

The PKR polls will be held from September 14 to October 7, and some 800,000 members will vote in stages via an electronic polling system.

Anwar won the presidency uncontested, which paves the way for him to replace Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister, albeit after winning a parliamentary seat in a by-election. – August 19, 2018.
