MALAYSIANS need to be patient and allow the new government to sort out the dismal financial position of the country, said Daim Zainuddin, the chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP).
Daim said the people must be prepared to accept that not all new policies introduced by Pakatan Harapan would be popular.
“There are no quick fixes to the problems that the council has identified and many challenges still lie ahead.
“The government and the people must be ready to make and accept difficult decisions for the long term benefit of the nation,” he told reporters in a press conference today at Ilham Tower.
The former finance minister explained that the country’s financial situation was bleak and needs time to recover.
“It is in bad shape. Financial position is not in good shape. The people must be patient while government put things in order.
“The feedback is revenue compared to last year improved. People are more willing to pay tax now. Collection has improved. These are good signs, people showing confidence in the government,” said Daim.
“I want the people to give support to the government, be patient. Continue to support and let the government stay united and perform.
“The government must stay united for a common purpose, which is to revive the economy. That is my request to the people,” Daim said. – August 20, 2018.
