PKR leader Nurul Izzah Anwar in Penanti, Penang, today gave a mandate to all party members to prepare themselves for what she called the dirtiest general election in Malaysian history.

“I am aware of the challenges. The next election will be the dirtiest in Malaysia history. The worst and full of manipulation by Barisan Nasional,” she said.

“We want every district voting committee aware that there is a large swathe of voters affected by Election Commission moves,” she said.

She expressed concern about the extension of the chief justice’s tenure, adding the opposition was becoming pessimist about the challenge it had to face in putting a stop to undemocratic delineation of constituencies.

“As a product of this, we remind everyone that in order to retain our wins we have to be aware. We advise them to use the application that we have built to identify voters in the electoral rolls,” she said, adding that the app – which currently has restricted access – will be rolled out for wider use in the coming months.

“We will democratise the application. We want to make sure that people know that they have right to protect their votes,” she said.

Nurul Izzah said the only way of protecting their votes from being stolen was by identifying the voters and making sure that they voted at the correct station.

Nurul Izzah told reporters that there were 112,000 voters affected by state delineations, while more than 40,000 were affected through parliamentary changes.

“On top of that, 28,000 new postal voters have been added by Election Commission,” she said. – July 29, 2017.
