ATTEMPTS by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Dr Mahathir Mohamad to snare Malay voters should not be taken lightly, Umno leader Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said today.

The Pasir Salak Umno chief and Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister said Dr Mahathir would not waste his energy at his age if he had no confidence in toppling the Barisan Nasional government.

“Pakatan (Harapan) is confident that he can topple BN because if it wasn’t, Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin (Yassin) and Mukhriz Mahathir would not be so adamant,” he said.

In a speech to Umno Batu Kawan delegates this afternoon, Tajuddin warned that if the opposition won, the coalition replacing BN in power would not be Malay dominated.

“In BN, Umno is the prime mover in government. Eventhough we have MIC and MCA, they do not interfere in decision making when it comes to Malays and Islam. They do not object,” he said.

He said in order to remain in power, Malays should stop voting for the opposition because those votes only empower a “racist DAP”.

“When you talk about the opposition, there’s Parti Bunga (the Flower Party),” he said referring to Bersatu, “PKR, Amanah and DAP, but even if you vote for the others, the votes will only empower DAP,” he said.

As for Penang, Tajuddin said it would not be an easy task to take the state back from DAP, but Umno should still continue working hard.

He also advised the division that they should already start reaching out to the community instead of waiting for the election to make their presence felt.

“Instructions have been given but I have noticed some divisions will only start community services when an election is nearing. We do not want people to look at Umno and think it is seasonal. That is how they feel that we are irrelevant. We do not want that,” he said. – July 30, 2017.
