TREASURY Secretary-General Ismail Bakar is the new chief secretary to the government, replacing Ali Hamsa, whose tenure ends tomorrow.
Ali congratulated Ismail after handing over his duties today in front of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“I have handed the Handing Over Notes to Ismail, who will be replacing me as the 14th Chief Secretary to the Government. Congratulations and all the best,” he posted on Twitter today.
Ali has been the chief secretary since 2012. Ismail was appointed as the Treasury secretary-general on June 12.
There had been calls for Ali to step down, including from the G25 group, who charged him with showing partiality to the previous Barisan Nasional administration.
Dr Mahathir has said he had problems trusting civil servants who had worked under BN rule.
Ali was also reprimanded by the Prime Minister’s Office for failing to address microphone problems at the swearing in of the MPs when Dewan Rakyat convened for the first time after the 14th general election.
The PMO had indicated its displeasure at Ali for failing to address persistent audio issues experienced during the ceremony in Parliament that was telecast live.
Badariah also pointed to microphone problems during a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission briefing for lawmakers in Parliament on July 10.
Several top civil servants have had their contracts cut short by the Pakatan Harapan administration, such as former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah and former Election Commission chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah. – August 28, 2018.
