AFTER 20 years, the Reformasi movement should not be tarnished by PKR members fighting for positions, said Dr Afif Bahardin.
The Youth chief aspirant said there were members contesting in the party polls who were marring PKR’s image by taking jabs at each other.
“This is not a platform on which to fight it out, complain and rant. Do not soil the Reformasi movement for the sake of posts,” he said in his speech at the opening of the Selangor PKR general assembly.
He was referring to the team led by vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who has claimed his camp be the “real” Reformasi movement that aims to continue the party’s struggle.
Afif said members should vote for experienced leaders like deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, and not those yet to prove themselves.
“When you choose leaders, choose those who are ‘tested’. To test a man’s character, give him power.
“The Selangor leadership, led by Azmin and Amirudin… they are the ‘tested’ leaders of Reformasi,” he said referring to Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, who succeeded Azmin in the post.
Meanwhile, Wanita chief candidate Haniza Talha said there were those within the party trying to bring down the Selangor government.
The Lembah Jaya assemblyman urged the PKR disciplinary bureau to take action against such individuals.
“I ask that the disciplinary bureau take action against these party members.”
The hottest battle in the PKR elections is for the No. 2 post, with Rafizi gunning to replace Azmin.
The presidency was won uncontested by Anwar Ibrahim last month.
The Rafizi-Azmin fight is mirrored in contests for other top posts.
Haniza will face off with Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Fuziah Salleh for the Wanita top post, with her running mate, Sementa rep Daroyah Alwi, vying for the wing’s No. 2 post.
Fuziah’s running mate is Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail. – September 2, 2018.
